Possible Causes
Leakage current detected by internal RCD/RCM module, Faulty vehicle onboard charger causing earth leakage, Damaged charge cable insulation, Moisture ingress in backplate or cable gland
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: A ground fault can be dangerous. Do not repeatedly reset without investigating the cause.
- 1. Disconnect the vehicle: Unplug the Type 2 cable from both the vehicle and the Easee charger. Inspect the cable for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections. Replace the cable if any damage is visible.
- 2. Dry and inspect the charger: Check around the cable gland and enclosure for signs of water ingress or condensation. If the unit is wet, switch off power and allow it to dry completely. Verify that the cable gland is tight and the rubber seals are intact.
- 3. Reset the RCD / charger: Turn OFF the upstream breaker for 30–60 seconds, then turn it back ON. If the charger has a reset function in the app, perform a soft reset as well. Observe whether the red blinking returns without a vehicle connected.
- 4. Test with another vehicle and cable: If possible, use a different EV and/or a different Type 2 cable. If the fault only occurs with one specific vehicle or cable, the problem is likely external to the charger.
- 5. Insulation resistance test (qualified personnel only): With the charger isolated, a technician can perform an insulation resistance test between line/neutral and earth on the outgoing circuit to the socket or tethered cable to confirm no breakdown of insulation.
- 6. Replace faulty components: If leakage is traced to the charger itself (e.g. moisture-damaged backplate or RCD module), replace the affected module or the complete backplate assembly.
