Possible Causes
Internal power electronics fault on main control board, Overtemperature shutdown of power module, Internal self-test failure, Permanent ground fault detected by RCD module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: A solid red LED usually indicates a serious internal fault. Do not attempt to bypass safety features. Work on live parts only if you are qualified.
- 1. Power-cycle the charger: Turn OFF the upstream breaker feeding the Easee charger for at least 60 seconds, then turn it back ON. Wait 2–3 minutes to see if the LED changes from solid red to another color or pattern.
- 2. Check for overheating: Feel the enclosure (without opening) after power has been off for a few minutes. If it was very hot, ensure the charger has adequate ventilation and is not exposed to direct sun or another heat source. Remove any obstructions around the unit.
- 3. Inspect for visible damage: With power isolated, remove the front module and visually inspect the main control board and power module for burn marks, bulging components, or a burnt smell. Do not touch components if you are not trained.
- 4. Test RCD / ground fault module: If the charger has an integrated RCD/RCM module, check for a tripped indicator. Reset only once if the design allows. If it will not reset or trips immediately, there may be a persistent earth fault.
- 5. Use the Easee app / portal: Connect via the Easee app or cloud portal (if available) to read any logged diagnostic messages that may further specify the fault (e.g. overcurrent, internal error).
- 6. Do not continue use: If the LED remains solid red after a power cycle and basic checks, discontinue use and arrange for replacement of the main control board or complete front module by an authorized service provider.
