Possible Causes

High ambient temperature and poor ventilation, Loose internal connections causing localized heating, Overrated current setting for installation, Failing internal components generating excess heat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: If the enclosure is too hot to touch comfortably, stop charging and turn off the breaker. Overheating can lead to fire.

  • Check installation environment: Ensure the Emporia charger has the recommended clearances and is not installed in a confined, unventilated space.
  • Reduce current: In the Emporia app, lower the maximum current setting and observe whether the temperature improves.
  • Internal inspection (qualified person): With power off, open the charger and look for discolored wiring, melted insulation, or hot spots around the contactor and terminal block.
  • Tighten connections: Loose lugs can cause heating. Carefully retighten all power terminals to manufacturer torque specs.
  • If overheating persists at reduced current and with tight connections: Internal components such as the contactor or control board may be failing and should be replaced.
