Emporia
Reduced Output Current / Derating
Charging is very slow compared to expected rate; vehicle shows low kW even though charger is rated higher.

Possible Causes
Maximum current set too low in Emporia app, Load management limiting current due to CT readings, Undersized or long wiring causing voltage drop, Vehicle limiting charge rate
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: No immediate high-voltage work is required, but any wiring changes must be done with power off by a qualified person.
- Check app settings: In the Emporia app, confirm the maximum current setting for the charger. Increase it up to the safe limit for your circuit (80% of breaker rating).
- Review load management: If using Emporia CT-based load management, check whether the system is actively throttling the charger due to high household load.
- Verify vehicle settings: Some EVs allow limiting charge current in the car’s menu. Ensure it is not set to a reduced level.
- Measure voltage under load (electrician): Excessive voltage drop due to long runs or undersized wire can cause the vehicle to reduce current. Upgrade wiring if necessary.
- If all settings are correct and wiring is adequate: The charger should deliver full rated current; if it does not, the internal current sensor or control board may be faulty and require replacement.
