Possible Causes
Welded contactor contacts, Open contactor coil, Loose control wiring to contactor, Faulty contactor driver on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off the breaker and verify absence of voltage before opening the charger. The contactor switches high current and must not be serviced live.
- Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge (with cover on), you should normally hear a click. If E08 appears with no click, the coil may not be energizing. If you hear a click but the charger reports a weld fault, the contacts may be stuck.
- Visual inspection (qualified person): With power off and cover removed, inspect the contactor for discoloration, melted plastic, or signs of arcing.
- Check control wiring: Ensure the low-voltage control wires from the control board to the contactor coil are firmly connected.
- Do not attempt to file or clean welded contacts: A welded or burned contactor must be replaced; reusing it is unsafe.
- If the driver circuit is suspected: Replacement of the control board is required. This should be done by a technician familiar with Emporia chargers.
