Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation around charger, Direct sun exposure on outdoor unit, Failing internal cooling components or poor thermal contact, Faulty temperature sensor on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Allow the charger to cool before touching the housing. Turn off power at the breaker if you suspect overheating.
- Check installation location: Ensure there is adequate clearance around the Emporia charger (per manual). Remove any objects blocking airflow or covering the unit.
- Reduce ambient heat: If installed outdoors in direct sun, consider adding shade or relocating the unit according to Emporia guidelines.
- Inspect for dust buildup: With power off, gently clean exterior vents with a soft brush or vacuum. Do not spray water or cleaners into the unit.
- Lower current setting: In the Emporia app, temporarily reduce the maximum current to decrease internal heating and test if E09 still occurs.
- If E09 recurs at normal temperatures: The internal temperature sensor or thermal interface may be faulty. This requires opening the electronics compartment and replacing the control board or sensor assembly, which should be done by a qualified technician.
