Possible Causes

Faulty pilot generation circuit on control board, Electrical noise or interference on pilot line, Damaged pilot conductor in cable, Vehicle inlet electronics incompatibility or fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting the cable.

  • Inspect cable and handle: Look for damage specifically near the base of the handle and where the cable enters the charger. The pilot conductor is low-voltage but critical for communication.
  • Test with another EV (if available): If another vehicle charges normally, the original vehicle may have a pilot interpretation issue and should be inspected by an automotive technician.
  • Power cycle: Turn the charger off for 1–2 minutes, then back on to reset the pilot generation circuit.
  • Check for nearby interference: Avoid routing the EV cable tightly bundled with high-current conductors or near large motors that can inject noise.
  • If E14 persists with multiple vehicles: The pilot driver on the control board or the pilot wire in the cable is likely faulty. Replacement of the J1772 cable assembly or the control board may be required; this should be done by a qualified technician.
