Possible Causes
Welded main contactor contacts, Shorted output wiring bypassing contactor, Faulty relay state sensing on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: This condition can leave the output energized unexpectedly. Turn off the breaker immediately and do not use the charger until repaired.
- Do not attempt to charge: Leave the J1772 handle unplugged from any vehicle.
- Internal inspection (qualified person only): With power off and verified, open the charger and inspect the main contactor for signs of welding or burning.
- Check output wiring: Ensure there are no unintended jumpers or damaged insulation that could bypass the contactor.
- Replace welded contactor: If contacts are welded or the mechanism is stuck, replace the contactor with an Emporia-approved part of the same rating.
- If contactor is mechanically free but E15 remains: The sensing circuit on the control board may be faulty, requiring board replacement.
