Possible Causes
Damaged proximity or pilot circuits in J1772 handle, Bent or recessed pins in vehicle inlet, Faulty vehicle detection logic on control board, Loose cable connection inside charger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power at the breaker before inspecting internal connections.
- Inspect J1772 handle and vehicle inlet: Ensure the connector fully seats and latches. Look for bent pins or debris in either side.
- Check cable entry: With power off and cover removed (qualified person), verify that the cable conductors and signal wires are firmly secured to the internal terminals or connector.
- Test with another EV: If another vehicle is detected normally, the original vehicle may have an inlet detection issue.
- Power cycle and retest: Restore power and attempt to start a session again.
- If E18 persists with multiple vehicles: The detection circuitry on the control board or the cable assembly is likely faulty. Replace the J1772 cable assembly first; if unresolved, replace the control board.
