Possible Causes

Incorrect wiring (single hot and neutral instead of two hots), Reversed line and neutral on certain models, Loose connection on one hot leg, Faulty line sensing on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power at the breaker and, if necessary, the main panel. Only a qualified person should work inside the panel or charger.

  • Verify wiring configuration: Confirm that the Emporia Level 2 charger is wired with two hot legs (L1 and L2) and ground, per the installation manual. Do not use neutral unless specified.
  • Check for loose or missing leg: Ensure both hot conductors are securely connected at the breaker and at the charger terminal block.
  • Measure voltage: An electrician should measure line-to-line and line-to-ground voltages to confirm proper 240V supply.
  • Power cycle: After correcting wiring, restore power and see if E20 clears.
  • If wiring is correct but E20 remains: The line sensing circuitry on the control board may be defective and require board replacement.
