Possible Causes
Deformed or worn latch mechanism, Warped connector housing from heat, Debris or corrosion on pins, Misalignment between charger connector and vehicle inlet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Ensure the charger is not actively charging before disconnecting. Stop charging via the app or vehicle first.
- Inspect connector: Look for cracks, warping, or melted areas around the latch and nose of the J1772 handle.
- Clean gently: Remove visible dirt or debris with a dry cloth or soft brush. Do not use lubricants or sprays on the connector.
- Check latch operation: Squeeze and release the latch repeatedly; it should move smoothly and fully retract the locking tab.
- Compare with another station (if possible): If your vehicle connects easily elsewhere, the Emporia connector is likely at fault.
- Replace connector assembly: If deformation or persistent stiffness is present, replace the entire J1772 cable and handle assembly. Do not force a damaged connector into the vehicle inlet.
