Possible Causes
Incorrect current setting in charger configuration, Oversized vehicle charging request exceeding charger rating, Faulty internal contactor welding or sticking, Loose or undersized supply conductors causing overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overcurrent can overheat wiring. If you smell burning or see discoloration, switch off power at the main breaker and call a professional immediately.
Steps to try:
- Check charger rating vs. vehicle setting: Confirm the Hager charger’s maximum current (e.g. 7.4 kW / 32 A single‑phase). In the vehicle’s charging settings, ensure the requested current does not exceed this rating.
- Power-cycle the charger: Turn OFF the EV charger’s dedicated breaker for 1 minute, then turn it back ON. Attempt a new charging session.
- Inspect upstream protection: Check that the dedicated MCB/RCBO feeding the charger matches the charger’s rated current and has not been derated by overheating or loose terminals.
- Check for repeated trips: If E03 appears repeatedly even at low current, an internal contactor or current sensor may be defective. Do not open the unit unless qualified.
- Call a technician: A Hager‑trained electrician should open the charger, inspect the power contactor, torque‑check terminals, and verify current sensor calibration. Replace the power contactor or main control board if faulty.
