Possible Causes
Welded main power contactor, Faulty contactor coil, Defective contactor driver on main control board, Overheated or carbonized contactor contacts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the dedicated EV charger breaker and verify absence of voltage with a suitable meter before touching internal components.
- 1. Listen and observe:
- When powering up (with cover on), you may hear a relay click. If E02 appears immediately, the charger may detect that the contactor is stuck closed or not closing properly.
- 2. Visual inspection of contactor:
- Remove power and open the charger housing according to Heidelberg service instructions.
- Locate the main power contactor (often a 2‑pole or 3‑pole relay module).
- Check for discoloration, melted plastic, or signs of overheating.
- 3. Mechanical test:
- With power off, gently tap the side of the contactor with an insulated tool to free a possibly stuck armature.
- Re‑energize the charger and see if E02 clears. If it clears temporarily, the contactor is failing and must be replaced.
- 4. Electrical test (for qualified persons only):
- Measure coil resistance and compare with the contactor datasheet.
- Check that the control board is supplying the correct coil voltage when a charge session is requested.
- 5. Replace if necessary:
- If the contactor is welded or the coil is open, replace the main power contactor with the Heidelberg‑specified part.
- Ensure all power lugs are tightened to the torque specified in the installation manual.
