Possible Causes

Faulty proximity (PP) circuit in Type 2 connector, Damaged resistor or wiring in Land Rover-branded Type 2 cable, Defective plug-lock sensor or actuator in the wallbox, Misaligned or worn latch mechanism in the vehicle inlet or plug

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Do not attempt to force the plug into the vehicle inlet. Turn off power at the charger breaker before opening the wallbox.

  • 1. Inspect plug fit: Ensure the Type 2 plug is fully inserted into the Land Rover vehicle inlet until it clicks. If it feels loose or does not latch, remove and reinsert firmly.
  • 2. Check for physical damage: Examine the plug body and latch for cracks, missing plastic, or bent metal. If the latch does not spring back, the plug may need replacement.
  • 3. Try another cable: If your Land Rover charger uses a socketed (untethered) design, test with a different Type 2 cable. If E02 clears, the original cable's proximity circuit is likely faulty.
  • 4. Inspect plug-lock mechanism (tethered units): With power OFF and cover removed, locate the plug-lock actuator and sensor assembly inside the wallbox. Check for disconnected wiring, broken plastic linkages, or obstructions. Reseat connectors firmly.
  • 5. Lubricate latch lightly: If the mechanical latch is stiff, apply a very small amount of plastic-safe dry lubricant to the latch mechanism (never to the electrical pins).
  • 6. If E02 remains: The proximity circuit or lock sensor may require replacement. Contact a qualified technician to replace the Type 2 cable assembly or lock actuator module.
