Possible Causes
No earth connection at charger supply, High resistance or broken earth conductor, Incorrect bonding of earth in distribution board, Faulty PE sensing circuit on Land Rover control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: A missing or faulty earth is hazardous. Do not bypass earth protection. Only qualified persons should work on grounding systems.
- 1. Visual inspection: With power OFF, open the charger and confirm that the green/yellow earth conductor is securely connected to the PE terminal and chassis bonding point.
- 2. Check earth continuity (qualified only): Use a continuity tester or multimeter to verify a low-resistance path between the charger PE terminal and the main earth bar in the consumer unit.
- 3. Inspect supply cable: Look for damage to the supply cable sheath that could indicate a broken earth conductor.
- 4. Verify bonding: Ensure that the EV charger circuit is correctly bonded according to local regulations (e.g., PME considerations). This may require an electrician.
- 5. Power-cycle and retest: After correcting any earth issues, restore power and check if E08 clears.
- 6. If earth is sound but E08 persists: The PE sensing circuit on the Land Rover control board may be defective. Arrange for control board replacement by a service professional.
