Possible Causes
Loose mounting of power contactor, Vibrating transformer or inductor on power board, Overvoltage causing magnetostriction noise, Worn contactor coil
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Noise often indicates vibration of energized components. Turn OFF power before opening the unit.
Steps:
- 1. Localize the sound: With the cover on, listen to determine if the noise is from the top, bottom, or side of the EVSE.
- 2. Inspect mounting (qualified person): With power OFF and cover removed, check that the contactor and any transformers are firmly mounted and that mounting screws are tight.
- 3. Check for resonance: Ensure the enclosure is not loose on the wall, which can amplify normal hum.
- 4. Replace noisy component: If the contactor or transformer itself is excessively loud, replace it with the correct Leviton part.
