Possible Causes
Loose J1772 connector latch, Weak contact tension on connector pins, Intermittent pilot or proximity wiring in cable, Marginal branch circuit causing voltage dips
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Avoid wiggling the connector under load. Turn OFF power before inspecting wiring.
Steps:
- 1. Observe connector fit: During a charge, gently (without force) touch the handle to see if slight movement causes interruption. If so, the connector may be worn.
- 2. Inspect latch and pins: Ensure the latch fully engages and that pins are straight and clean.
- 3. Check cable strain relief: Look for movement of the cable where it enters the EVSE housing; internal conductors may be flexing and breaking.
- 4. Monitor voltage (electrician): Have an electrician check for voltage sag on the branch circuit during charging. Correct any undersized wiring or loose connections.
- 5. Replace worn components: If mechanical wear is evident, replace the Leviton cable/connector assembly.
