Possible Causes

Pilot signal amplitude slightly out of spec, Dirty or oxidized J1772 pins, Vehicle not fully seated on connector, Loose pilot wire at control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker before opening the enclosure. Do not insert tools into the connector.

Steps:

  • 1. Confirm EV settings: Ensure the vehicle is not set to delayed charging or limited to a different EVSE.
  • 2. Inspect and clean connector: Visually inspect the J1772 pins for dirt or oxidation. Wipe gently with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  • 3. Ensure full insertion: Plug the connector firmly into the vehicle until the latch clicks. A partial insertion can prevent charging.
  • 4. Try another EV: If another vehicle charges normally, the issue is likely with the first vehicle.
  • 5. Check pilot wiring (qualified person): With power OFF, verify the pilot conductor is secure at the control board terminal and not pinched.
