Possible Causes
Supply voltage too low or too high, Loose neutral or ground (on models requiring neutral), Incorrect wiring (line-to-line vs line-to-neutral), Utility brownout or surge event
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: De-energize the EVSE at the breaker before opening any covers. Only a qualified person should measure live voltages.
Steps:
- 1. Check other loads: Look for dimming lights or other signs of low voltage in the home. If present, contact your utility before troubleshooting the EVSE.
- 2. Verify breaker and wiring: Confirm the EVSE is on the correct two-pole breaker size per Leviton’s installation manual. Ensure no shared circuits or multi-wire branch circuits are miswired.
- 3. Measure supply voltage: Have an electrician measure voltage at the EVSE input terminals. For most Leviton Level 2 units, line-to-line should be around 208–240 VAC. If outside the acceptable range specified in the manual, correct the supply issue.
- 4. Inspect internal connections: With power OFF, check that all terminal screws on the Leviton input block are tight and that copper conductors are fully inserted with no insulation under the clamp.
- 5. Surge damage check: If E03 appeared after a storm or power event, the internal power supply or surge protection components on the control board may be damaged. Look for burnt smell or discoloration (visual only; do not touch components).
- 6. If voltage is normal but E03 persists: The internal voltage-sensing circuit on the main control PCB is likely faulty and the board will need replacement.
