Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation around EVSE enclosure, High ambient temperature in garage, Failed internal temperature sensor on control board, Loose high-current connections causing localized heating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the unit to cool before touching the enclosure. Turn OFF power at the breaker if you suspect internal overheating.
Steps:
- 1. Check installation location: Ensure the Leviton charger has the required clearance around it (per manual) and is not enclosed in a small, unventilated cabinet.
- 2. Inspect for obstructions: Remove any items stored directly against or on top of the EVSE. Do not cover the unit.
- 3. Ambient temperature: If the garage or mounting area is extremely hot, consider improving ventilation or scheduling charging for cooler times of day.
- 4. Check for hot spots: After a cool-down, run a short charge and feel the front of the enclosure. Excessive localized heating near the cable entry or breaker panel may indicate loose connections; have an electrician check torque on all lugs.
- 5. Internal sensor fault: If E06 appears immediately on power-up in a cool environment, the internal temperature sensor or its circuit on the control board may be defective. Board replacement is typically required.
