Possible Causes
Damaged proximity resistor in J1772 handle, Broken proximity wire in cable, Short between proximity and pilot conductors, Faulty PP sensing circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF power at the breaker. Do not disassemble the J1772 handle unless you are trained and have the correct replacement parts.
Steps:
- 1. Inspect connector latch: Ensure the mechanical latch on the J1772 handle moves freely and is not jammed. The latch position affects the proximity circuit.
- 2. Check cable for damage: Look for kinks or crush points near the handle where the proximity wire is likely to break.
- 3. Test with another EV: If the fault only occurs with one vehicle, its inlet latch/proximity contact may be at fault.
- 4. Cable replacement: If proximity wiring or resistor is suspected faulty, the entire Leviton cable and connector assembly is typically replaced as a unit.
- 5. Board fault: If a new cable does not resolve E13, the PP sensing circuit on the main control board may be defective.
