Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the charger from power before opening the housing. Do not insert tools into the vehicle inlet.
- 1. Try another vehicle:
- If possible, test the Megear charger with a different EV to determine if the issue is charger-side or vehicle-side.
- 2. Clean connector pins:
- Inspect the J1772 pins for dirt or light corrosion.
- Clean gently with a soft, dry brush or a cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol; allow to dry fully.
- 3. Inspect cable and strain relief:
- Check for sharp bends or crushing near the charger housing and J1772 handle.
- If the cable has been repeatedly kinked, internal conductors may be damaged and the cable should be replaced.
- 4. Internal pilot connection:
- With power off, open the housing and verify the pilot wire is securely connected to the main control board terminal.
- Reseat the connector if loose.
If the charger still will not initiate charging with multiple vehicles, the pilot generation or detection circuitry on the main control board may be failing and require replacement.
