Possible Causes

Vehicle unplugged under load causing arc detection, Worn or loose J1772 latch mechanism, Faulty arc detection circuitry on main control board, Excessive movement of connector during charging

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Always stop charging before unplugging the connector to minimize arcing. Do not wiggle or pull the connector under load.

  • 1. Proper unplugging procedure:
    • Use the vehicle or charger stop button to end charging before disconnecting.
    • Wait for indicator lights to show that charging has stopped, then press the latch and remove the J1772 plug.
  • 2. Inspect latch and contacts:
    • Check that the J1772 latch fully engages when plugged in.
    • Inspect the metal contacts for pitting or burn marks from arcing.
    • If contacts are heavily pitted, replace the cable assembly.
  • 3. Cable strain relief:
    • Ensure the cable is supported and not pulling down on the connector during charging.
    • Use a hook or holder to reduce strain.
  • 4. Internal arc detection circuit:
    • If E11 occurs even with proper use, the arc detection or monitoring circuit on the main control board may be overly sensitive or damaged.
    • Board replacement may be required.

If E11 appears only when unplugging under load, it is primarily a usage issue; follow correct disconnect procedures. If it appears randomly, have the charger inspected.
