Possible Causes

Faulty PWM pilot generator on main control board, Shorted pilot to ground or line in cable, Incorrect resistor network on pilot circuit, Damaged pilot output transistor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before opening the charger or testing pilot circuits. The pilot line carries low voltage but is referenced to high-voltage circuitry.

  • 1. Basic reset:
    • Power-cycle the charger and vehicle.
    • Try a different vehicle if available to rule out car-side issues.
  • 2. Inspect pilot wiring:
    • Check the J1772 connector for damage to the small pilot pin.
    • Inspect the cable for cuts or crushing that could short the pilot conductor.
  • 3. Continuity test (advanced):
    • With power off, measure continuity of the pilot wire from the main control board connector to the J1772 pilot pin.
    • Check for shorts between pilot and other conductors.
  • 4. Board-level issue:
    • If the cable is intact, the PWM pilot generator on the main control board is likely defective.
    • Replace the main control board; firmware reprogramming may be required per Megear instructions.

Pilot signal faults generally require board or cable replacement rather than field repair of components.
