Possible Causes

Damaged pilot wire in charging cable, failed pilot circuit on main control board, bent or contaminated pilot pin in J1772 connector, internal wiring harness fault between control board and cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect the charger from the wall outlet or turn off the dedicated breaker before touching the cable for detailed inspection. Do not open the charger housing.

  • Power cycle: Turn off the breaker or unplug the MUSTART charger for 2 minutes, then restore power and test again.
  • Inspect J1772 connector: Check the small pilot pin (usually the thinner pin) for bending, discoloration, or debris. Clean gently with a dry brush. Do not insert metal tools into the connector.
  • Check cable strain: Look along the length of the MUSTART charging cable for kinks, crushed sections, or cuts, especially near the handle and where the cable enters the charger housing. If you see exposed copper or a soft/bulged area, stop using the charger.
  • Test with another EV (if possible): If E1 appears with multiple vehicles, the internal pilot circuit on the main control board is likely faulty and the unit should be serviced or replaced.
