E12
Charger shows “E12” and will not start; may appear after long‑term outdoor exposure.
Insulation Resistance Fault / Moisture Ingress Detected
E13
Display shows “E13” and the charger does not respond to button presses or current setting changes.
User Interface / Keypad Communication Error
E14
Charger shows “E14” and will not start charging; may appear after a firmware update or power surge (on models that support updates).
Firmware / Internal Software Error
E15
Display shows “E15” and charging stops; often associated with very low ambient temperatures.
Low Temperature Protection / Sensor Out of Range
E2
Charger shows “E2” and refuses to start charging; sometimes appears immediately after plugging into the wall or after a power fluctuation.
Input Voltage Out of Range / Overvoltage or Undervoltage Protection
E3
Display shows “E3” and charging stops or will not begin; may occur intermittently during storms or grid disturbances.
Overcurrent / Output Overload Protection
E4
Charger displays “E4” and refuses to charge; sometimes appears immediately when plugging into the EV.
Ground Fault / Leakage Current Detected
E5
Display shows “E5” and charging stops or will not start; often associated with very hot weather or long high‑current sessions.
Overtemperature Protection (Internal Charger Overheat)
E6
Charger shows “E6” and will not charge; sometimes appears after a lightning storm or power surge.
Relay / Contactor Stuck or Faulty
E7
Display shows “E7” and the charger refuses to start; may occur when plugged into a miswired or ungrounded outlet.
Ground Connection Fault / Protective Earth Missing
E8
Charger displays “E8” and does not charge; may appear when the EV is unplugged during active charging or if the connector is loose.
Connector Lock / Proximity Detection Fault
E9
Display shows “E9” and the charger will not start; sometimes appears after the unit has been dropped or physically impacted.
Internal Hardware Fault / Self‑Test Failure
Symptom
Charger appears to charge, but the EV reports a much lower charging current than the charger’s setting, with no error on the charger.
Incorrect Pilot Current Signaling or EV Current Limiting
Symptom
Charger display and lights rapidly turn on and off (power cycling) without user input; charging may start and stop repeatedly.
Unstable Internal Power or Loose Supply Connection
Symptom
Charger display is on but very dim, flickering, or unreadable; charging may still work intermittently.
Display Backlight / UI Power Fault
Symptom
Charger emits a burning smell or visible smoke during or shortly after starting a charge.
Internal Overheating / Component Failure
Symptom
Charger fan (if equipped) runs very loudly or not at all, even during high‑current charging.
Cooling Fan Failure or Obstruction
Symptom
Charger makes a loud buzzing or humming noise during charging, louder than usual relay click or fan noise.
Noisy Relay or Magnetic Component Vibration
Symptom
Charger powers on and shows normal screen, but EV does not start charging and vehicle reports “No power” or “Charging station error” with no code on charger.
Handshake Failure Without Displayed Error
Symptom
Charger randomly stops charging when other large appliances in the home turn on (e.g., AC, oven), without showing an error.
Supply Voltage Sag / Load Interaction
Symptom
Charger starts charging but stops after a few minutes with no error code on the display; EV may show “Charging stopped by EVSE.”
Intermittent Output Drop / Thermal or Connection Issue
Symptom
Charger trips the upstream breaker or GFCI immediately when starting a charge, but no error appears on the charger display.
External Breaker Trip / High Inrush or Ground Leakage
Symptom
Charger will not power on at all; no display, no lights, and no relay click when plugged into the outlet.
No Power / Internal Power Supply Failure
Symptom
Charger works intermittently when the cable is moved or bent; charging may start or stop when the cable is jiggled.
Intermittent Cable Conductor or Pilot Wire Break
Symptom
Charger’s buttons or touch controls do not respond, but the display is on and charging may still start automatically.
Button / Keypad Failure
Symptom
Charger’s cable insulation is cracked, cut, or heavily abraded, but the charger still appears to function.
Compromised Cable Insulation / Shock and Fire Hazard
Symptom
Charger’s cable or J1772 handle becomes very hot to the touch during normal charging, even at rated current.
Overheating Connector / High Contact Resistance
Symptom
Charger’s front panel or housing is cracked or broken due to impact, but the unit still appears to function.
Compromised Enclosure Integrity
Symptom
Charger’s housing vibrates or rattles noticeably when the relay engages or during charging.
Mechanical Vibration / Loose Internal Mounting
Symptom
Charger’s plug at the wall outlet (NEMA 14‑50, 6‑50, etc.) becomes hot or shows signs of melting after repeated use.
Overheated Supply Plug / Poor Outlet Contact
Symptom
Water or condensation visible on or around the charger housing; occasional random shutdowns or unexplained behavior during wet weather.
