Possible Causes
Welded internal power relay contacts, failed relay driver circuit on main control board, surge damage to relay coil, mechanical failure of relay inside charger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Do not attempt to open the charger or tap on the housing to free the relay. High voltage components are inside.
- Power cycle: Turn off the breaker or unplug the charger for 5 minutes, then restore power and test again.
- Listen for relay click: When you plug the EV in and charging should start, you should normally hear a click from inside the MUSTART unit. If E6 appears and there is no click, the relay may not be engaging.
- Check for surge damage: If E6 appeared immediately after a known power surge or lightning event, internal components may be damaged. Do not continue trying to use the charger.
- Service required: A stuck or failed relay requires replacement of the main control board or relay assembly by the manufacturer or a qualified service center.
