Possible Causes

Blocked ventilation around charger, direct sun exposure on unit, failing internal temperature sensor, degraded internal power relay or contactor generating excess heat

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Overheating can damage internal components. Do not cover the charger or operate it in confined spaces.

  • Power down and cool: Unplug the charger or switch off the breaker. Allow the unit to cool for at least 30–60 minutes.
  • Improve ventilation: Ensure the MUSTART charger is not covered by objects, coiled cable, or installed in a sealed box. Provide at least several inches of clearance around the housing.
  • Shade the unit: If installed outdoors, consider shading the charger from direct sunlight, especially in hot climates.
  • Reduce current: On adjustable models, lower the charging current setting (e.g., from 40 A to 24–32 A) to reduce heat generation.
  • Persistent E5: If E5 occurs quickly even in cool conditions, the internal temperature sensor or power relay on the main control board may be failing and requires professional replacement.
