Possible Causes

Moisture ingress in internal wiring, Damaged insulation on output conductors, Faulty IMD circuit on main PCB, Vehicle-side insulation fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Treat this as a potential electric shock hazard. Do not continue using the charger until resolved.

  • Visual inspection: With power off, open the charger and inspect all internal wiring for nicks, crushed insulation, or contact with sharp metal edges.
  • Check for moisture: Look for condensation, water tracks, or corrosion on the PCB, terminal block, and cable glands. Dry thoroughly and correct any sealing issues.
  • Test with another vehicle: After drying and reassembly, test with a different EV. If E012 only occurs with one vehicle, the fault may be on the car.
  • Insulation test (qualified only): Use an insulation resistance tester (megger) between live conductors and earth on the charger output (with all electronics disconnected as per service manual). Values below manufacturer limits indicate a wiring fault.
  • Replace damaged wiring: Any cable with compromised insulation must be replaced, not taped.
  • IMD/PCB replacement: If wiring is sound and E012 persists, the insulation monitoring circuit on the main PCB may be defective and require board replacement.
