NewMotion Derated Output / Limited Charging Current

Vehicle reports reduced charging power or only charges at a very low current, even though charger is rated higher.

Possible Causes

Dynamic load balancing limiting current, Incorrect max current configuration, Overtemperature derating, Weak supply cable or breaker rating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not increase current beyond what the installation can safely support.

  • Check app limits: In the NewMotion app/portal, verify the maximum current setting and any smart charging or load balancing limits.
  • Review installation data: Confirm the supply cable size and breaker rating. The charger may be correctly limiting current to protect the installation.
  • Monitor temperature: If the charger is hot, it may be automatically derating. Improve ventilation or shade if installed in direct sun.
  • Test without load balancing: Temporarily disable external load balancing to see if full current is restored (if safe to do so).
  • Firmware and logs: Check for any thermal or supply-related events in logs that explain the derating.
