Possible Causes

CT sensor not clamped around conductor, CT installed backwards or on wrong wire, Broken CT lead or connector, Failed CT sensor or CT board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power before moving the CT or opening the enclosure.

  • Step 1 – Verify CT placement: Ensure the CT is clamped fully around the correct line conductor (usually L1) and that the jaws are fully closed.
  • Step 2 – Orientation: Some CTs are directional. Check for an arrow or marking indicating current flow direction and orient accordingly.
  • Step 3 – Inspect wiring: Follow the CT leads to the CT board or main board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not pinched or broken.
  • Step 4 – Compare with clamp meter: If possible, measure current with an external clamp meter and compare to EVSE readings. If the CT reads zero or wildly off, replace the CT sensor or CT board.
