Possible Causes
Floating ground due to poor bonding, Leakage from EMI filters to chassis, Damaged insulation in cable, Incorrect neutral-ground bonding upstream
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: A tingling sensation indicates a potential shock hazard. Stop using the EVSE and turn off power immediately.
- Step 1 – Verify grounding: Have an electrician confirm that the EVSE chassis is properly bonded to the equipment grounding conductor and that the ground path is intact.
- Step 2 – Inspect cable: Check the J1772 cable for damage or moisture that could cause leakage to the handle shell.
- Step 3 – Check for neutral-ground issues: Ensure there is no improper neutral-ground bond on the load side of the service disconnect.
- Step 4 – Replace suspect components: Replace the cable or main board if insulation breakdown or filter leakage is suspected.
