Possible Causes
Damaged pilot conductor in tethered cable, Corroded or bent pilot pin in Type 2 connector, Faulty pilot generation circuit on Pod Point PCB, Water ingress into charge gun affecting pilot resistor network
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not use the charger if there is visible damage or burning on the connector. Avoid touching pins with metal objects.
- Step 1 – Inspect the Type 2 connector: Disconnect from the vehicle. Check the pilot pin (small pin) and other pins for corrosion, bent pins, or contamination. Clean gently with a dry, lint‑free cloth only. Do not use solvents or abrasives.
- Step 2 – Check cable strain: Ensure the tethered cable is not crushed, sharply bent, or damaged along its length. If there are kinks, cuts, or flat spots, stop using the charger.
- Step 3 – Test with another EV/cable: If you have a socketed Pod Point, try a different Type 2 cable. If the fault disappears, the original cable is likely defective.
- Step 4 – Electrical diagnosis (electrician/technician): With power isolated, measure continuity of the pilot conductor from PCB to connector, and verify the correct pilot resistor values and waveform as per IEC 61851. If the pilot circuit on the PCB is not generating the correct signal, the control PCB must be replaced.
- Step 5 – Replace damaged parts: Replace the tethered cable assembly or socket outlet if the pilot pin is damaged or corroded beyond cleaning.
