Possible Causes
Insulation fault in vehicle or cable causing leakage to earth, Moisture ingress inside Pod Point enclosure, Faulty internal 6 mA DC / 30 mA AC RCD module, High earth impedance or missing earth on supply circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: An earth fault can be dangerous. Do not repeatedly reset the circuit if it keeps tripping. A qualified electrician must investigate.
- Step 1 – Try another EV: If possible, test with a different vehicle to determine whether the fault is vehicle‑specific.
- Step 2 – Dry the environment: If the charger has been exposed to heavy rain or washing, allow it to dry for several hours. Do not open the unit yourself.
- Step 3 – Check supply earthing (electrician only): The electrician should verify earth continuity, earth loop impedance, and bonding at the charger supply. Any high impedance or missing earth must be corrected before further use.
- Step 4 – Inspect for water ingress: With power isolated, the cover can be removed to check for moisture, corrosion, or tracking marks on the PCB and RCD module. Any signs of water ingress require drying, cleaning, and often replacement of affected components.
- Step 5 – Test RCD / RDC‑DD module: The internal RCD or RDC‑DD (DC leakage detector) should be tested with appropriate test equipment. If it trips at incorrect thresholds or fails to reset, replace it with the Pod Point‑approved part.
