Possible Causes

Oxidized contacts in Type 2 plug, Slightly loose socket contacts (on socketed units), Marginal pilot or proximity connection, Mechanical wear in latch mechanism

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Repeated reinsertion can wear contacts further. Address the underlying cause.

  • Step 1 – Clean connector: With power off, gently clean the plug pins with a dry, lint‑free cloth. Do not use abrasives or liquids.
  • Step 2 – Inspect for wear: Look for pitting, discoloration, or deformation of pins.
  • Step 3 – Test with another cable/EV: On socketed units, try a different cable. On tethered units, try another EV if possible.
  • Step 4 – Technician socket check: For socketed chargers, a technician can inspect and, if necessary, replace the Type 2 socket if contacts are loose or worn.
  • Step 5 – Replace tethered cable: If the tethered plug is worn or damaged, replace the entire cable assembly.
