Pod Point
Reduced Charge Current / Derating
Vehicle charges very slowly compared to charger rating (e.g. 7 kW Pod Point only delivering ~2–3 kW)

Possible Causes
Dynamic load management limiting current due to house load, Vehicle onboard charger limiting current, Misconfigured maximum current in Pod Point settings, Over‑temperature derating by charger
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: Slow charging is often due to configuration or vehicle limits rather than a hardware fault.
- Step 1 – Check Pod Point app: Confirm the maximum current setting for the charger and any active load management or smart tariff limits.
- Step 2 – Check vehicle settings: Some EVs allow the user to limit charge current; ensure it is set to maximum.
- Step 3 – Monitor house load: High concurrent household load may cause the charger to reduce current if load management is enabled.
- Step 4 – Temperature check: If the charger is hot and previously showed over‑temperature warnings, it may be derating. Improve ventilation and consider reducing sustained current.
- Step 5 – Technician verification: A technician can measure actual current draw and confirm whether the charger is correctly advertising current via the pilot signal.
