Possible Causes
Weak or missing pilot signal, Damaged pilot pin in connector, Misconfigured maximum current setting, Vehicle not in Park or charge port not fully latched
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not force the connector or attempt to bypass safety interlocks.
- Step 1 – Confirm vehicle state: Ensure the vehicle is in Park, charge port door is fully open, and any required in-vehicle settings allow AC charging.
- Step 2 – Reinsert connector: Unplug and firmly reinsert the Rivian handle until it clicks. Wait 30–60 seconds for the handshake.
- Step 3 – Try another EV or EVSE: Test the vehicle on another charger, and test your Rivian charger with another EV if possible to isolate the problem.
- Step 4 – Check app settings: In the Rivian charger app, verify that charging is not paused, scheduled-only, or limited to a very low current.
If the charger never transitions to charging with any vehicle, the pilot circuit or control board may be faulty and require service.
