Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ground fault conditions can be hazardous. Do not bypass safety devices.
- Step 1 – Inspect for moisture: Unplug the vehicle. Check the Rivian charge handle and the vehicle’s inlet for water, condensation, or road salt. Gently dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. Allow both ends to air dry for at least 1 hour.
- Step 2 – Inspect cable jacket: Look along the entire length of the cable for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections. If any damage is visible, discontinue use.
- Step 3 – Reset the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON. Attempt a new charge session.
- Step 4 – Try another parking position: If the cable is under tension or twisted, reposition the vehicle so the cable hangs naturally and is not pinched.
- Step 5 – Internal GFCI check (visual): With power OFF and cover removed, locate the toroidal ground fault sensor (current transformer) around the output conductors. Ensure the harness connector to the control board is fully seated and there are no signs of burning.
If E003 continues with multiple vehicles and in dry conditions, the internal GFCI/CCID module or control board is likely faulty and must be replaced by a qualified technician.
