Possible Causes

Damaged proximity pin in charge handle, Broken latch switch in handle, Faulty proximity circuit on control board, Debris preventing full insertion into vehicle inlet

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Do not force the connector into the vehicle inlet.

  • Step 1 – Inspect connector latch: Check that the mechanical latch on the Rivian handle moves freely and returns under spring tension. Remove any debris or ice.
  • Step 2 – Check insertion depth: Plug the handle into the vehicle until you hear/feel a click. If it does not fully seat, inspect the vehicle inlet for obstructions.
  • Step 3 – Examine proximity pin: Look at the small pins in the connector; if any are bent or recessed, the handle assembly may need replacement.
  • Step 4 – Wiggle test: With the vehicle in Park and charger idle, gently wiggle the handle. If the charger repeatedly connects/disconnects, the proximity switch or wiring in the handle is suspect.

Persistent E010 usually indicates a failed proximity switch or damaged handle wiring. Replace the charge cable and handle assembly as a unit.
