Excessive Electrical or Mechanical Hum
Rivian charger emits a loud humming or buzzing noise during charging

Possible Causes
Vibrating main contactor coil, Loose mounting hardware, Resonance in enclosure due to high current, Failing contactor with magnetically noisy core
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Some low-level hum is normal, but sudden changes or very loud noise warrant inspection.
- Step 1 – Compare at different currents: Reduce the charging current in the app. If the hum decreases significantly, it may be normal magnetostriction in the contactor.
- Step 2 – Check mounting: With power OFF, verify that the charger is firmly mounted to the wall and that all internal components (contactor, terminal block) are securely fastened.
- Step 3 – Listen for rattling: If you hear rattling in addition to hum, a loose component may be vibrating and should be tightened.
Persistent loud buzzing that is new or worsening can indicate a failing contactor, which should be replaced by a professional.
