Possible Causes

Damaged Type 2 charging cable, Contaminated or bent pins in vehicle inlet or charger socket, Fault in pilot signal circuit on Rolec control PCB, Loose connection on CP/PP terminals inside charger

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate the charger at the main consumer unit (MCB/RCD) and at the local isolator before opening any covers. Only a competent person should remove covers or work on live parts.

  • Check the cable and connectors: Inspect the Type 2 plug and the vehicle inlet for bent, recessed, or contaminated pins. Clean light dirt with a dry, lint‑free cloth. Do not use solvents or lubricants.
  • Try a different cable: If your Rolec unit has a Type 2 socket (untethered), test with a known‑good cable. If the error clears, the original cable is likely faulty.
  • Power‑cycle the charger: Turn off the charger at the isolator for 2–3 minutes, then restore power and re‑test. Sometimes the control PCB will clear a transient pilot fault after a full reboot.
  • Inspect internal CP/PP wiring (competent person only): With power isolated and front cover removed, check that the CP (control pilot) and PP (proximity pilot) conductors are firmly clamped in the terminal block on the Rolec control PCB and on the socket outlet module. Look for signs of overheating or damage.
  • If fault persists: The pilot signal driver or sensing circuit on the control PCB may be defective. Do not bypass safety circuits. Arrange replacement of the control PCB or contact a qualified EV charger technician.
