Possible Causes

Improper 240V circuit wiring, Loose hot or neutral connection at Splitvolt plug, Undersized or damaged extension cord, Splitvolt internal voltage sensing circuit fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the breaker feeding the Splitvolt charger before touching any wiring. Never open the charger housing unless you are qualified; this can expose lethal voltages.

  • Verify outlet type and rating: Confirm the Splitvolt charger is plugged into the correct NEMA outlet type and amperage (e.g., NEMA 14-30, 14-50, or 10-30 depending on your Splitvolt model). The outlet must be on a dedicated 240V circuit.
  • Check for loose plug fit: With power OFF at the breaker, remove the charger plug and inspect the outlet blades for discoloration, burning, or looseness. Re-seat the plug firmly. If the outlet feels loose, have an electrician replace the receptacle.
  • Measure voltage (qualified persons only): With the breaker ON, use a multimeter to confirm line-to-line voltage is within the charger’s specified range (typically ~208–240V). If voltage is below spec or fluctuating, contact an electrician or your utility.
  • Remove extension cords: Do not use extension cords with Splitvolt EV chargers. Plug directly into the wall outlet to avoid voltage drop and overheating.
  • Power-cycle the charger: Turn the breaker OFF for 2–3 minutes, then back ON. Reconnect the charger and vehicle. If E01 returns with correct voltage present, the internal voltage sensing board may be faulty and the unit should be serviced or replaced.
