Possible Causes
Circuit breaker undersized for charger setting, Splitvolt current setting too high for branch circuit, Internal current sensor (CT) fault, Loose or overheated plug blades causing high resistance
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping breaker. Overheating wiring can cause fire. Turn off power before inspecting plugs or outlets.
- Confirm circuit rating: Check the breaker size feeding the outlet (e.g., 30A, 40A, 50A). Compare with the Splitvolt charger's maximum current setting. The charger must be set to ≤80% of the breaker rating (e.g., 24A max on a 30A circuit).
- Adjust charger current: If your Splitvolt model supports adjustable current, reduce the amperage setting via the front panel or app (if applicable) to match the circuit capacity.
- Inspect plug and outlet: With power OFF, unplug the charger and inspect the plug blades and outlet contacts for discoloration, melting, or burn marks. Replace a damaged outlet and discontinue use until repaired.
- Check for shared loads: Ensure no other high-draw appliances are on the same circuit. Splitvolt chargers should be on a dedicated circuit.
- If E02 persists: After confirming correct circuit and settings, persistent E02 may indicate a failed internal current transformer or control board. Contact Splitvolt support or a qualified technician for internal diagnostics and possible replacement.
