Possible Causes
Blocked ventilation around Splitvolt enclosure, High ambient temperature near panel or outlet, Failing internal cooling fan (if equipped), Overheated plug or internal power relay contacts
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overheating can damage wiring and cause fire. If you smell burning or see discoloration, turn off the breaker immediately.
- Improve ventilation: Ensure the Splitvolt charger has several inches of clearance on all sides. Do not cover it with cloths, boxes, or mount it inside a sealed cabinet.
- Check ambient temperature: If installed in a hot garage or near a dryer or furnace, consider relocating the charger or improving airflow (fans, open door) during charging.
- Inspect plug and outlet: With power OFF, unplug the charger and feel the plug and outlet face. If they show signs of melting, browning, or deformation, have an electrician replace the outlet and verify wiring tightness.
- Shorten charging sessions: If possible, reduce the current setting on the Splitvolt charger to lower internal heat generation.
- If E05 recurs quickly: The internal temperature sensor or cooling fan (if present) may be faulty, or the main power relay may be overheating. Internal components should be inspected and replaced by a qualified technician.
