Possible Causes

Welded main power relay contacts, Failed relay coil, Control board relay driver fault, Excessive inrush current damaging relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: A welded relay can leave the output energized unexpectedly. Turn off the breaker before touching the charger or vehicle connector.

  • Power down completely: Switch the circuit breaker OFF and leave it off until the issue is diagnosed.
  • Observe behavior: After turning the breaker back ON, listen for the normal single relay click when starting a charge. Multiple rapid clicks or no click at all with E07 indicates relay issues.
  • Check for signs of overheating: If the charger housing near the power input feels unusually hot or shows discoloration, discontinue use.
  • No user-serviceable relay: The main power relay in Splitvolt chargers is internal and not designed for field replacement by homeowners. Contact Splitvolt support or an EVSE repair specialist to test and replace the relay or control board.
  • Do not attempt to bypass relay: Bypassing or jumpering the relay defeats safety interlocks and can create shock and fire hazards.
