Possible Causes
Recent power surge or lightning event, Damaged MOV surge suppressors on input board, Control board overvoltage detection fault, Incorrect supply voltage (e.g., 277V on 240V unit)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: After a surge event, internal components may be compromised. If you smell burning or see smoke, keep the breaker OFF and do not reuse the charger.
- Verify supply voltage: Have a qualified person measure the line-to-line voltage at the outlet. Ensure it matches the Splitvolt charger's rating (typically 208–240V). If voltage is too high, contact your utility or electrician.
- Power-cycle after surge: Turn the breaker OFF for 5 minutes, then ON. This can reset some surge detection circuits if they have not been permanently damaged.
- Inspect for visible damage: With power OFF and charger unplugged, look for burn marks or melted plastic at the plug or housing. Any visible damage means the unit should be replaced or professionally repaired.
- Use surge protection: For future protection, consider a whole-house surge protector or a panel-mounted surge device installed by an electrician.
- Persistent E08: Indicates likely failure of the input surge protection network or control board. Internal board replacement is required; contact Splitvolt support.
