Possible Causes
Circuit breaker undersized or weak, Short circuit in outlet or charger cord, Ground fault not detected by charger, Overloaded shared circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips instantly; this can indicate a dangerous fault.
- Confirm breaker size: Ensure the breaker rating matches the outlet and charger requirements. A 30A outlet should be on a 30A 2-pole breaker, etc.
- Inspect cord and plug: With power OFF, check for visible damage, cuts, or burn marks. Replace the charger if the cord is compromised.
- Test outlet with another load: If a different 240V load also trips the breaker, the issue is likely in the wiring or breaker, not the charger.
- Dedicated circuit: Ensure no other large loads share the same breaker.
- If only the Splitvolt trips the breaker: Internal short or ground fault is likely; discontinue use and have the charger serviced or replaced.
