Possible Causes
Damaged pilot signal wire in output cable, Faulty control board pilot driver circuit, Corroded or bent pins in J1772/Type 2 connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the charger at the breaker and verify no voltage is present before opening any covers. Do not work on live EVSE circuits.
- Power-cycle the charger: Turn the dedicated breaker OFF for 2 minutes, then ON. Reconnect to the vehicle and check if E01 clears.
- Inspect the vehicle connector: Examine the Zencar J1772 or Type 2 plug for bent, recessed, or corroded pins, especially the small pilot pin. Clean light oxidation with electrical contact cleaner and a soft brush. Do not file or sand the pins.
- Check the output cable: With power OFF, gently flex the cable near the handle and near the charger housing. If E01 appears or disappears when flexed, the pilot conductor inside the cable may be broken and the output charging cable assembly should be replaced.
- Inspect control board connections: Remove the charger cover (if user-serviceable per Zencar manual). Verify the pilot wire terminal is firmly seated on the main control board and not burnt or loose.
- If E01 persists: The pilot driver circuit on the main control PCB may be defective. Replacement of the board is typically required and should be done by a qualified technician.
