Possible Causes
Welded main contactor contacts, Failed contactor coil, Loose contactor wiring, Faulty contactor driver circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: The main contactor switches high current. Always isolate power at the breaker and verify zero voltage before touching internal components.
- Listen for contactor operation: When starting a charge, you should hear a distinct click from inside the Zencar unit. No click suggests a coil or driver issue; a single click followed by E05 suggests welded or faulty contacts.
- Inspect wiring: With power OFF, check all wires to the main power contactor for tightness and signs of overheating.
- Check contactor coil resistance: Using a multimeter, measure the coil resistance and compare to Zencar service specs. An open or shorted coil means the contactor must be replaced.
- Check for welded contacts: With power OFF and disconnected, verify continuity across the contactor's main terminals. If continuity is present when the coil is not energized, the contacts are welded and the contactor must be replaced.
- If contactor tests good: The contactor driver circuit on the main control PCB may be defective and require board replacement.
