Possible Causes

Damaged proximity switch in handle, Broken proximity wire in cable, Stuck mechanical button on J1772/Type 2 connector, Faulty proximity input on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before inspecting the connector wiring.

  • Check connector button: On J1772 handles, press and release the latch button several times to ensure it moves freely and is not stuck partially depressed.
  • Inspect connector head: Look for cracks or impact damage around the latch area that could affect the internal proximity switch.
  • Flex test the cable: With power OFF, gently flex the cable near the handle while monitoring continuity (if equipped) or observing if the error appears/disappears. Intermittent behavior suggests a broken proximity conductor; replace the output charging cable assembly.
  • Check board connection: Verify the proximity wire connector is firmly seated on the main control PCB and not corroded.
  • If all wiring is intact: The proximity input circuit on the main control PCB may be faulty and require board replacement.
